Head Teacher's Message - 20th December 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thanks to everybody for making this term such a tremendous success. I have been overwhelmed by all your support and goodwill as I made the transition to Head teacher. It is a joy and a privilege to work with your amazing children and our fantastic, hard working and conscientious staff at St Thomas. Our results for 2016/17 have now been published. We are over the moon and very proud of all our children (past and present).

Year 2 - Tesco Visit

Our first school trip this year was to Tesco in Burscough. Part of our topic this term is how to keep our bodies healthy with exercise and healthy eating. During the visit the children were given the opportunity to taste many different fruits, breads and cheeses which not only introduced them to new flavours and textures but also enabled them to find out about where different fruits come from and how they grow. They also discovered how bread and cheese were made and got to touch the fish on the fish counter! Following the trip, the children spent the afternoon chopping and blending fruits for smoothies and baking cakes and flapjacks for our Year 2 café the next day. The children invited their loved ones to sample the delights as they were very proud of their accomplishments. Everyone had a great morning! Well done Year 2.

Year 5 - Fencing

As part of our sports taster afternoon, Year 5 have donned some mesh helmets and picked up their foils to try out their skills as mini Zorros. The children learned all about correct footwork, handling of the foils and different techniques used by Olympians to gain as many points as possible.
Some amazing skills shown and well done to Ella for being picked by our coach for her ‘aggression’ when approaching her opponent, all in the correct sporting way of course.

Year 5 - Roman Trip (DEWA)

As part of our topic work, Year 5 have taken a visit to the Roman city of Chester to experience a day as a soldier and learn all about the lives of the past.
During the day, they had the opportunity to observe artefacts, gather information and dress as soldiers. They also took to the streets to explore military formations and observe a mock, yet very realistic gladiator battle between the victor Mr. Purcell and his sister in the remains of the amphitheatre.
A fantastic day out :-)

Year 5 - Taster Day

Lathom Taster day Many thanks to Lathom High school for their invite to year 5 for their taster day.
During our visit the children experienced different high school lessons in drama, PE, languages and art, followed by a science spectacular from the brilliant head of science.

2014-15 Parent / Carer Questionnaire Feedback.....

I am very pleased with the nursery provision at the school. Mrs. Christy is an outstanding teacher and a credit to the school. Although I have seen some of the children misbehaving, I do feel that the teaching staff dealt with this appropriately.
