Head Teacher's Message - 20th December 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thanks to everybody for making this term such a tremendous success. I have been overwhelmed by all your support and goodwill as I made the transition to Head teacher. It is a joy and a privilege to work with your amazing children and our fantastic, hard working and conscientious staff at St Thomas. Our results for 2016/17 have now been published. We are over the moon and very proud of all our children (past and present).

Nursery - Christmas Decorations

On Tuesday, Nursery and Reception had stay and play. We had lots of fun showing our parents around our classroom and making decorations for Christmas.
We made Christmas cards and decorated biscuits (although we didn't share our biscuits with our Mums or Dads!).
We played in our new summerhouse which is now Santa's workshop!

Nursery - Diwali

Nursery have been learning all about Diwali. We know that it is the festival of light and have made our own Diwali lamps.
We have been dressing up in our special clothes and role playing getting the home corner ready. We had to make sure it was clean and tidy, ready to celebrate.
We used the iPads to create Rangoli patterns and decorated hands with henna (playdough, paint, sequins and marks).

Year 2 - Fire Safety Talk

We had a visit from two Firemen this term. They came in to talk about fire safety in the home and at school.
The talk was very informative and the children learnt a lot about what to do in the event of a fire at home.
They also did some role play as a test to see what they had learnt at the end of the session.

Year 2 - Visit From Nurse Claire

Our topic this term in History was to learn about Florence Nightingale and her achievements. The children really enjoyed learning about Florence, so a visit was arranged for an ICU Ward Manager (Nurse Claire) to come in and tell the children about modern day nursing. The children embraced the visit and asked Claire lots of insightful questions. They compared clothing and discussed the equipment that nurses use to look after patients. The visit enabled the children to really understand what impact Florence Nightingale had on nursing as a profession and I think we now have some aspiring nurses in our class!

2014-15 Parent / Carer Questionnaire Feedback.....

My son has attended nursery for five terms and he has made lovely friendships. He has been so happy and his confidence has bloomed. Mrs. Christy has gone to great lengths to ensure his needs are met and he has been challenged appropriately. We always feel comfortable talking to Mrs. Christy about his progress and next steps. We are so thankful to Miss Kenny and Mrs. Christy for giving him a wonderful start to his school life at St. Thomas the Martyr.
